The Hon. John Leefe has endorsed Tim Houston for leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia.
In addition to holding prestigious titles such as Honorary Colonel and past Mayor of the Region of Queens Municipality, Leefe also served in cabinet as Minister responsible for a number of portfolios including Minister of Fisheries, Minister of Environment and Minister of Natural Resources.
“Nova Scotia is facing a future that is full of daunting challenges. Citizens need a government that can re-imagine our struggling economy while ensuring essential support systems, a productive labour force and healthy environment form the firm foundation to make this not just possible, but entirely doable,” said Leefe. “Competent leadership that listens and responds rather than dictates and divides are essential ingredients for success. I am confident that Tim Houston is the right person with the right vision at the right time to make this reality.”
In his post-political life, Leefe went on to receive a number of awards and honours. Leefe was awarded honourary Doctor of Laws by University of King's College 2001, in 2012 he was appointed Honorary Colonel of the West Nova Scotia Regiment and was also the recipient of the Canada 125, Queens Golden Jubilee and Queens Diamond Jubilee decorations.
Hon. John Leefe’s endorsement for Tim Houston comes a week after former Finance Minister Neil LeBlanc declared his support for Houston’s bid for leadership.
“Receiving John’s support, and hearing his kind words, is not only humbling, but it gives me – and our hard-working campaign team – the confidence that we’re on the right track,” said Houston, MLA for Pictou East and PC Leadership Candidate. “John’s approach to his personal life and professional life has always been thoughtful and diligent, and his actions are informed by the compassion and empathy he has for the province and people he cares for. I am honoured to have his support.”
“Tim Houston is the right fit for Nova Scotia. Mature, vibrant, engaged, a listener, a performer, he has the royal jelly that can catapult Nova Scotia. The confrontational doldrum we are currently experiencing is not productive,” said Leefe. “Tim Houston offers transformative leadership upon which Nova Scotians can partner to create the Nova Scotia we desire, the Nova Scotia we deserve.”
